That Natural Product Chemist is an independent educational publication by Hien Le for researchers learning and practicing natural product chemistry.
Why it exists
Final structures, activity values, and polished conclusions are useful, but they often hide the sequence of observations, choices, failures, and revisions that produced them. This project publishes that reasoning beside the experimental evidence.
The scope includes sourcing, extraction, isolation, chromatography, dereplication, NMR, MS, complementary spectroscopy, computational tools, biological context, literature, and laboratory practice. Content is written for both junior and advanced researchers: orientation provides an entry point while methods, limitations, references, and data preserve depth.
Articles, Opinions, Exercises, Examples
Articles examine noteworthy scientific papers. Opinions assess tools and present reasoned positions. Exercises withhold the structure until the reader has worked through the evidence. Examples show the structure from the beginning and demonstrate what each technique contributes.
Scientific boundaries
Content is educational and does not replace peer-reviewed literature. Dataset identity, interpretation, and uncertainty are kept distinct. Draft analyses remain outside the production site until their assignments have been reviewed.
